Ready to Burn Legislation

As a local provider of wood fuel, TTSR Ltd is making it easy for customers to find wood fuels that have been certified as Ready to Burn and that meet new legal requirements that came into force from 1 May 2021 in England.

Under the new Air Quality (Domestic Solid Fuels Standards) (England) Regulations 2020 that now apply in England, wood fuel sold in volumes under 2m3 must be certified as Ready to Burn. The regulations aim to prevent harmful pollution from domestic burning of all solid fuels by ensuring wood sold in volumes of under 2m3 is certified as having a moisture content of 20% or less. Customers buying loose wood in quantities of 2m3 or more are given advice on how to store and season the fuel, giving them confidence that the wood they are burning is suitably dry before use.

The DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) Ready to Burn certification scheme is run by Woodsure. Woodsure is a non-profit organisation striving to raise the quality of wood fuel in the industry. For the past four years, Woodsure has been leading the way in championing the use of less polluting dry wood which is verified by its independent inspectors as having a moisture content of 20% less, meaning it burns with less smoke than wetter wood.

Our Certification

TTSR Ltd customers can be confident that the wood fuel being sold is ready for immediate use by looking for the Ready to Burn logo along with the supplier’s name and unique Ready to Burn certification number. We have gained certificate number WS595/00001 for our firewood and WS595/00002 for our kindling splinters.

The new legislation is all about helping to reduce particulate emissions and improve air quality. Certified wood fuels will give you more heat from each piece of Ready to Burn wood fuel burnt. They burn more efficiently than unseasoned, green wood and reduce the environmental impact of burning. Using proven dry wood is also better for your appliance and chimney and will help reduce maintenance and fuel costs.

The Ready to Burn certification scheme makes it easier than ever for people to identify fuels that meet legal requirements, so they can have complete confidence in what they’re buying.

Taking Care of our Customers

TTSR Ltd will provide customers with a leaflet called Firewood Storage Tips, along with their emailed or printed invoice at point of sale. This leaflet includes our certification numbers for Ready to Burn firewood and kindling splinters. All of our firewood is sold with the Ready to Burn moisture levels, unless requested otherwise by the customer at point of sale. Therefore, you can buy with the confidence that we have checked moisture levels before releasing our products for delivery. The leaflet can help you to understand how to store your firewood to give you the best chance of maintaining those low moisture levels.

We are always here if you have any questions, so feel free to call the office for any clarifications regarding your winter fuel deliveries. We are happy to help.
